Stuart Logan: is an incoming 4th-year Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering student at Queen’s University. He recently completed a year of professional internship through the QUIP program. This summer, Stuart will be conducting research with Perk Lab under the supervision of Prof. Gabor Fichtinger, Prof. Keyvan Hashtrudi-Zaad, and PhD student Laura Connolly.
Research Project: Stuart’s project focuses on improving breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for early-stage breast cancer. The aim is to develop a wearable haptic device to assist surgeons in tumor localization during BCS. Current practices show that unsuccessful surgeries may leave residual cancer due to tumor transection, which this research aims to mitigate by using haptic feedback. The innovative approach will involve creating a wearable haptic bracelet that provides feedback to the surgeon without the need for a collaborative robotic system.
Recent scholarships / accomplishments: Principal’s Scholarship (2021), Deans list (2022-2024), Undergraduate Student Summer Research Fellowship (2025)
