Med-i CREATE Challenge Empowers Students to Solve Real-World Problems

Med-i CREATE trainees from Queen’s University and Western University participated in this year’s annual table-top challenge, a rigorous three-week event focused on applying practical skills and solving problems in medical informatics.

Organized into five groups, they collaborated to develop automated methods for accurately segmenting liver tumors on CT images and reliably predicting tumor types. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their technical expertise to real-world problems while strengthening leadership and teamwork skills.

This year’s winning team included trainees Elbert Chao, Robert Policelli, Matthew Pirie and Katherine Williams
